Saw an Aston Martin Cygnet last night.

Hmm, I get the idea and the interior looked stunning, I understand how people have plenty of money and 30 grand is just not an issue but to be honest it looks a bit silly, its kind of like those branded pedal cars they sell.

I can sort of understand perhaps wanting a more premium interior but it doesnt really offer anything else that an up-spec IQ does, same running gear etc, so all I can see its for is wannabe AM owners or AM owners who already have a proper one wanting something for around town whilst not letting anyone forget that they are actually very wealthy as the IQ would do the job anyway, so seems to be pretty much vanity based.

One postivie thing for me is that I can now differentitiate between two of the AM range as they all look pretty much identical (but very nice) to me, ok three with the Rapide.


Am now waiting for the RR Silver Piglet, based on a Mini with an RR grille, kind of a modern day Allegro VDP, or perhaps the Bentley Runtinental, a 1960's Invacar painted black with 20 inch wheels.

It doesn't have a RR grill, but you can get a RR finished Mini now for £40k.

This is exactly who AM are targetting though.

I've actually been in one as a passenger and it is rather nice inside. Worth 30+k? IMO not on your nelly - but then i'm pretty far removed from your typical AM customer.

I think it's bloody excellent and they will sell!

Not that I'm in any position to buy one but if I was a supercar owner with a lot of money I'd buy one just to nip to the shops etc.

I wonder what the insurance would be like on them? Will we be seeing spoilt 17 yo's in AM Aygo's!?

Isn't it a case that they don't really care if they sell or not. The car just brings their overall company average CO2 emissions down, thereby satisfying the Eco nazis. (Or did I dream that)

I guess they will sell, its a novelty, the IQ is quite a piece of design and a good city car, there are plenty of people that like a bit of garnish and have 30 grand spare, in fact have millions spare, we arent all impoverished enthusiasts but I maintain that you will still look a bit of a berk in one.

Interestingly, it's much more likely that people with plenty of money will think far harder about spending £30K, how do you think they got (and kept) plenty of money?

Agree entirely with your other comment, branded pedal car is precisely what it's like.

Aston Martin are a low volume manufacturer, they don't need to bring down emissions.

I wrote that big because so many people seem so determined to believe this, it's a complete red herring.

Low volume must mean less than 10k units manufactured - so I guess Aston fits within this. The exemption has only been granted for 5 further years though. By 2020, unless the CO2 scaremongerers have had another think about this, all manufacturers need to be clean and green.

So what does a DB9 do over a much cheaper GT (lets say a 911), than the Cygnet doesn't do over a much cheaper city car?
