Battery Brain on Cerbera

Hi everyone

I'm having some issues with my Cerb in that as he doesn't get driven every weekend, the battery quite often runs flat - it's got so common that I now have a spare battery and a set of jump leads parked next to the car in the garage!

So I was thinking that a more elegant solution would be to have a battery isolator fitted - so that I can just disconnect the battery before it goes flat and then reconnect when I want to go driving.

Then.. reading around for a remote control isolator (might as well do it properly with the Cerbera) I found this device that monitors the battery and automatically disconnects if the levels drop, and then can re-connect remotely.

get yourself an accumate battery charger and leave it connected whilst in the garage

Have the battery chargers however as it's a shared garage (under ground block) my neighbours get a bit snotty when I run extension leads over the garage to connect the trickle charger to the car and keep turning it off Correct idea though

Might invalidate your insurance, seems they're not confident about this otherwise I'm sure there would be reassurance in their FAQ.

I've always had the attitude with the Cerbera that if you can actually get into the damn thing, start it, and manage to bypass the dodgy electronics and alarms then you're more than welcome to it

I also have a Mysterious Magic Cerbera switch fitted so it's pretty safe [unless you read a lot of Piston Heads forums ]

When you say it goes flat often, what is often. Do you have a power drain on it which is killing the battery.

No abnormal power drain bar the alarm, but I think the alarm is staying in 'unhappy mode' as it flashes continually when armed - more the fact I think that living in Central London I can go three/four weeks without any 'Cerbera time' and he just seems to get unhappy

I've seen those melted ones before - they normally turn up on eBay as a quick fix (for the brave and/or fool hearted!)

It's that special key again which along with the fag lighter and big fuse kills more cerbs than mac duff.

For weeks I could not work out why mine was going flat unlit I watched my little girl playing with the light switch in the back and leaving it on. :-)

So I've fitted a new Exide Maxxima 900 DC Deep Cycle Battery which seems FANTASTICALLY good however did notice that last week when I manually turned off the 'special key' next to the cigarette lighter, the car didn't seem to be going flat.

What exactly DOES that key do and disconnect (have left it off for good measures now parked back in underground lair...)??
