Been tooling around in one of these for a few days, Cambs to Manchester mainly and have to say....I'm impressed, it's very comfy once the seat and wheel get sorted, bit stiff but very, very stable and the motor has gallons of grunt.
Only downside that I can see, apart from the sheer size of the thing is the lamentable mpg....43ish on a staedy 80mph, it's only done 6000 miles though so I guess that could improve but, overall. Very nice motor

t figures.....so farTo be fair, 43 MPG isnt that bad. A lot is said about very high MPG figures on some cars and its only when you run the average calculation over a period of time do you get a decent idea.
For example, I "can" get 67MPG out of mine! Yep, a fairly steady crawl down the M6 between 60-65MPH in pretty much ideal conditions saw this. Impressive but VERY dull and actually required a lot of concentration to get right. Stick the cruise on at 75MPH and I get 47MPG - which is pretty good, but get up to 80-85 and it drops to 40MPG or less! So it can be so variable!

43 is actually better than I've been getting. I've got a 2.0 CDTI (160) SE. Ran at a steady 85 (kph if the police are reading!) down from Scotland to Manchester and back two weeks ago, mainly on cruise. Returned 41mpg on the trip computer there and back. They're very good cars on the motorway, not any fun at all on the twisties though, due to the size and fairly narrow power band of the engine.

Errr....Google images?I woould have thought you could get 45mpg if you kept the Insignia at 70mph.
I am getting 40-44mpg out of my Saab 9-3 1.9 TID (150). I'm happy with that consdering its a big car. I was getting 45mpg out of Golf TDI. I'm told the BlueMothion will do an average of 50mpg!
I'm currently running an Insignia 2.0D Ecoflex, which is around 158-160bhp, though I don't think this engine is available with SRI spec, or at least it wasn't last year.
Over the last 20k, I've averaged 50.4 mpg according the cars computer, including a lot of high speed motorway and inner city driving. Reasonably impressive I'd say.
The last insignia I ran was the 130bhp non ecoflec version, and that struggled to get over 44mpg average.

My Insignia with the 2.0 160PS diesel is returning an average of about 42 mpg at the moment. That's mainly for a varied mix of commuting through start-stop town traffic, plus a fair bit of spirited driving on NSL roads. The car has also got 18" wheels (which may or may not make a difference) and I'll admit that I've got a very heavy right foot and give it some beans where possible. I can easily get the economy at over 50mpg on a long motorway run at sensible speeds but where's the fun in that?
To be honest I'm more than happy with what I get, mainly because the Insignia replaced a 2.0 turbo petrol Vectra which I struggled to get more than 24mpg from...

I had one as a courtesy car last year, was the petrol (2.0t or 1.8t cant remember), cracking car, build and finish wise, was really suprised, even Vauxhalls attempt at the i-drive type thing was easy to use, but, it was really really sluggish, not comfortable on long drives and terrible at turning corners with reasonable to progressive pace (this coming from an Audi driver I know).
but, as a package it did a great job, looked good (in my eyes) and the interior was a nice place to sit (although comfort could have been better, be it the car, be it my years of slouching or years of playing football & golf)

If we compare MPG I think I win this one.
Our Toyota Avensis 2.0 Auto (Petrol)
Town - 19-25 MPG!
M/Way - 29-35 MPG.
Our lowest we got in town was 18.4 MPG!! The highest we got was on the way to B'ham a couple of weeks ago at a steady 70mph. The MPG was...wait for it.... 37.4MPG!
It only does 340ish miles to the tank.
It is a petrol and carrys a bit of weight in the boot (moms job) but even with that in mind it's still shocking. Even her friend has a 2005 Skoda Octavia 2.0 DSG (Diesel) and that averages 49MPG and she has carried the same amount of weight as mom, but it is a diesel so will always get better MPG!
It is pretty bad considering mom isn't a racer. Mom coveres around 320 miles a week and an odd trip down to B'ham about once a month so fuel bills do add up!
We had a Vauxhall Insignia 2.0CDTI SRi Nav as a rental and that was really good. The torque of the engine , especially in 3rd is really good and it wasn't too bad in the bends considering the size of it. The engine also made overtaking a breeze. I was pleased for the week we had it.
The new interior was really good aswell. One thing I would do is get leather but that was my only niggle. We got 46MPG out of it aswell.
Would be my #1 if I was in the market for one of that type of car.
