It's funny but I really rate Becker and also McEnroe - two awesome tennis players who actually add insight and genuine experience...
FUnny that there is not a thread titles: 'How good are Wimbledon commentators?'

Yep, Becker and McEnroe are the best there. It's the other ones flopping about the place crying a bout murray and wondering if the roof will be open or closed that are bad.FUnny that there is not a thread titles: 'How good are Wimbledon commentators?'

I really enjoy them. There's a lot of wry humour between them and the subtitles created around their accents are truly hysterical at times! FUnny that there is not a thread titles: 'How good are Wimbledon commentators?'

Becker being a true petrol head helps too.
Their irreverence is a breath of fresh air and by the time the get Andrew Castle on board with the banter it's great

This is indicative of how dull it is. This, and such stuff as comedy hysterics induced by a pigeon landing on the ground. This lot is hard to understand...I must be missing something.Edited by stephen300o on Saturday 2nd July 12:58

I'm having trouble associating that adjective with what it's describing...But as tennis players go/went, if allowed to use the Americanism, they were

Or did you mean awful...?

I would happily say that on the two occasions I saw McEnroe actually play live at SW19, I was in awe of his raw and genuine talent

I only ever saw Boris play live once and he was so athletic and set the bar at new heights for raw athleticism (IMHO) that I would also say that I was in awe
We were also beside him in the queue at Miami Immigration on one occasion and he stood in line like a 'normal' person with no flunkies or minders; couple of kids came up and asked for autographs and he was pleasant beyond comprehension after a transatlantic flight - no airs and graces and was more than happy to have his picture taken once through customs etc by some others. But then I enjoy ground breaking or great tennis - under that level, I would rather ride my push bike down the M5 in the middle lane

I will concede the point that 'awesome' in the true sense of the word is over used - mainly by every American on the planet - and for stuff that simply isn't.... Some would say that there is no such thing as incredible tennis - some might not

Well shoot, If I would go write in a moto gp thread that I thought bikes were the most over rated tedious things on the planet, some might think I were a troll! Then the realisation, hey I'm not contributing at all, in fact, I'm just annoying people!
Tennisists can't take a bit of leg pulling...
They get annoyed...
Dull...
