depends if said tap has isolation valves, if it has, it then depends where you are, expect to pay for 1/2 a day's tradesman's wage
Half a day?!travel to job = 1 hour
travel to trade centre and back to pick up bits = 1 hour
do the job = 3/4 hour
travel back to base = 1 hour
add it up = 1/2 day

That works out at £85 per hour! Christ no wonder these plumbers can afford to have such tastelessly 'improved' homes!
You're missing out the two visits to the OP's house and the trip to collect the tap from Screwfix, so not strictly £85 per hour:anonymous said:

Haven't been in a plumber's house (that I'm aware of) so can't comment on how tastefully or not their houses are improved though.66comanche said:

Well go and get yourself trained up and join us in the land of milk and honey. I won`t consider getting up to rip-off old ladies for less than a thousand pounds a day.
My mate has a plumbers merchants, and used to be a plumber, and whilst £50 per hour may well sound expensive, you`re not just paying for his time but also his expertise, tools, van, diesel, insurance, etc, etc.
When he first started he spent £4.5k training, whilst working part time, bought a van for £10k, and approximately £6k worth of tools. First job he was on, got someone out of trouble within 40 minutes, only charged the £45 call out and the bloke started jumping up and down about what a rip off it was and how did he sleep at night!!
