Best/most reliable 2003 Audi A8 engine

Simple one really, i hear a lot about the 4.0tdi turbo's going.

What is the most reliable if serviced correct, i would assume 3.0 petrol or 4.2 petrol?

I think they are all fairly good, the 4.2 engine can have carbon build up that can be a pain, but motor wise the petrols are fairly good.

Its the gearboxes you wanna worry about!

So stick to petrol and avoid diesel?
