Aftermarket battery grip - EOS60D

Hi,

Just received my Meike nattery grip for my EOS60D and was pleasantly surprised by its build quality and weight. Better than I thought. Buttons were nice and solid with good action, particularly the shutter release button; the pressure between halfway and full press is noticeable.

Then I put it on the camera and inserted the battery. The thumb buttons worked OK, the wheel worked well and the half press focused the lens. Excellent - then I tried to take a picture. Pressing the shutter button all the way did nothing, absofglutely nothing.

EOS 60D, original battery (just the one in the grip but in slot 1), firmware 1.0.9.

Anyone suffered a similar experience? Is it knackered or am I missing a trick?

My aftermarket grip works a treat on my 60D, I was kinda wary about it but at 1/3rd of the price of the official one it was worth a punt, and thankfully it aint missed a beat!

There were a few people saying the aftermarket batteries supplied with the kit I bought wouldn't show the usage data in the 60D menu, even they worked perfectly!

FWIW I've just bought a Meike grip for my Nikon D7000 and had exactly the same symptons . I took it off and put it back on a couple of times and it works perfect now Guess it was just a dodgy connection between the camera and grip .

Thanks for that - another Meike user - that's calmed my nerves over compatibility. You got a good deal, there!!

I had read stories about the battery problems with compatibles so it helps to know that, too. I just bought two DECODED batteries from 7dayshop so I'm hoping these work (when I get a working grip)

Thanks for letting me know that Strikerscoop. I'll give the connections a swab with some cleaner and massage the connections gently and reattach it a few more times.

Worth a go before it has to go back to China. It'll never make it back in time for the GP

Just a pity this wasn't a week or two ago, as I've been out in Oregon for a few weeks and could have picked up another one from the same seller and then forwarded it on to you when back home in haggisland this coming Thursday...

4th July holiday on Monday, and I fly on Tuesday first thing so no chance of even doing a quick shipment...

On a plus note - acted on strikerscoop comments and got some alcohol and cotton buds and cleaned the sensors on the camera and the connectors on the grip. Gave the connectors a bit of work out and reconnected it to the camera. Works a treat, now.

Another plus note, had no problem from the ebay seller either about returning it, which was good.
