Does anyone know the correct way to reset the ecu on a 156 2.5 V6?

I've just fitted a new MAF to mine but it's still running a bit rough so I thought I might try a reset to see if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave. Hope things are well.

Disconnect your battery for 45 minutes.
Reconnect and turn the ignition to the MAR point, leave it for 90 seconds.
Turn it back off and leave for the same period of time.
Start engine and leave it idling for 15 minutes. Don't touch the throttle at this stage.
Turn the engine off and leave it for 15 minutes.
Start engine again and go for a blast, driving in different styles.

I think this resets the throttle too. Hope that helps.

Nice one rob.thumbup I'll give it a try in the morning.

Only paid £75 for a new MAF but if this doesn't sort it it looks like it might be something else, Lambda?

What sort of MAF is it Dave, a proper Bosch one? I'm pretty certain that Alfas are very sensitive to non-genuine MAFs.

Proper bosch unit. Got the number for the sensor its self and bought one for a Vauxhall V6. Just swapped the new sensor into my old housing. Its exactly the same part number.

Its has a slight hesitation on pick up on part throttle and if you give it full throttle it seems to pick up ok but then tails off at about 5-6k rpm. I've had all the intake off and cleaned all that but I'm still waiting on a new intake pipe as mine has a rip in it. I've sealed it up but it needs a new one ideally.

Yes that sounds like MAF. Funny i have exactly the same prob with intake pipe on my 166 and have just replaced MAF. Mine's a sportronic and there's MASSIVE delay in normal'D' accel and kickdown. Often doesn't kickdown. As it's my first Auto im not sure what's normal. The garage assures me all is well

It does sound like classic faulty MAF running, but other things to try would be plugs, leads, ECU/throttle reset as discussed, or the lambda sensor. I'd be half tempted to say it could be the plugs. Some owners are reluctant to change them as one bank is an absolute bh to change IIRC.

I think I'll change the plugs as well tomorrow and your right about it being a bh of a job. You have to take the plenum chamber off to reach the rear bank of cylinders.

Its a good job I love working on it.smile

Sorted. smile Fitted 6 new plugs but found that 1 of the coil packs has a small hole in it and 2 of the rear plugs where full of oil, must be leaking in from the cam cover gasket, future job.

Cars runs so much better now and revs all the way into the reddriving

Still runs slighty, slighty rough on tick over so I'm putting that down to the holed coil pack. I'll get that replaced soon as.

Cheers rob for the plugs ideathumbup
