Now that Jonty has moved on to keeping Ferraris in his living room, am I the only regular PHer with a Quantum?

I have to confess mine has been a bit unloved lately. It's been laid up at my parents' house for about five years and I was on the verge of selling it as a non-runner - in fact, I may yet do so - but on closer inspection there isn't actually that much wrong with it. The brakes need an overhaul (as you'd expect after five years!) and the subframe needs a thorough strip and re-paint, but it appears to be structurally sound and it started first time (on petrol so old it was bought for about 88p a litre).

Suddenly rather tempted to get it back on the road. I am starting to get a bit bored with my modern, reliable, water tight daily driver; maybe this is the answer? smile

Anyway, back to the original comment - are there any others on here? If I do get it back on the road I'll probably need to pick a few brains...

Hi Chris

Yes I've got a Quantum 2+2 aswell. Build 1 in 1995/1996 which was sold in 2003. Repalced with a Quantum Xtreme. Then in 2007 I bought the current 2+2, it came with a 1.6 CVH and didn't go so I've fitted a 2.0 Zetec which is a step in the right direction.
I'm happy to share what knowledge I have, but you might consider joing the Quantum Owners Club as there are nearly 400 members who would be happy to assist.

I be getting one hopefully very soon a coupe version. Just waiting for the auction to finish. Whats the conversion like to put in a 2.0zetec would like a bit more power and a newer engine to the 1.6cvh engine. Needs a respary to, that red is lovely on yours.

Hi Charlie

I have to confess I didn't build mine, but it was my first car (well, first one I actually owned) so it's probably a similar attachment!

I was always fairly pleased with the Vulcan-built CVH in mine, but my idea of a fast car has moved on somewhat since I last drove it any distance and the possibility of an engine transplant had occurred if I was to keep it long-term. I'd probably go for a Zetec too these days, but I was given an XR3i engine a while back that's always looked rather tempting.

Is there a web forum or anything for the QOC these days? I was a member back in the day, but we're talking six or seven years ago now...

Have a look on the fiat coupe forum (www.fccuk.org), a guy has just finished building a "Quanturbo" using the 220bhp turbo 5-pot, it looks standard but is, by all acounts, a monster - and that is coming from guys who have 350bph+ everyday drivers!

Bleedin hell, you still got that thing? And its just a fancy garage, not my living room. The wife would have divorced me had I done that!

Get the Quantum back on the road, or better still, get it stuck on a track instead! Always wanted to convert mine into being a rally car when I had it!

Yep!

It hasn't actually left the farmyard for six years, but I do still own it.

The shocking thing was it started first time when I got my dad to investigate the other day and nothing structural looks to be seriously rotten. I was on the verge of selling it for spares or repair, but looks like it's a thorough service and a brake overhaul away from being roadworthy again. If nothing else I want to get it into decent condition to be sold as a runner as I can't bear the thought of my first car going for scrap.

Get it used as a track car!!!

Nah, suppose its probably best to get rid as a runner. The money you get from selling it will pay for your next break down with the TVR!!! laugh

Yes, I know I have no need to talk with the reliability of Italys finest!

Actually, the TVR's downfall may be to the Quantum's advantage. I changed jobs a while back and I'm not really in the TVR income bracket any more. I've got the savings to keep it for another year or so, but I probably won't be able to justify it long term so I'm going to need something interesting, but more affordable. Realistically, I'll probably go for a Clio 182 or an MX5 or something, but the idea of putting the Quantum back into regular use did strike me. scratchchin

Not to bad few areas of scuffs and scratches. 4 months tax just run out of mot only done 200 miles since last mot. Engine been rebuild 600 miles ago. Runs fine all lights and switches working, inside is in need of tlc. Not sure if im going to respray it, hope to get it on the road this week. Will be picking it up tommorrow and will mot it and give it a service before putting it on the road will post pics next week. What the emissions rules on it, its a 87 with a xr2 engine in it.

I think mine use to be, if it didn't produce a load of smoke, it passed. Tax wise it'll just be in the old bracket of above 1.5 litres, so will be about £205 per year.

Picked it up yesterday after a 10 hour round trip. Mot today failed on four things no fog light tell tail, c.v boot inscure, brake flexi rubbing on wheel and one headlight aim low, so an hours work tommorow after work and should be all done. Got to get insurance remove the locking wheel nuts as it didn't come with the key and it be on the road will post pics when i get it home. Flew through the emissions no probs.

Looks good.

Are there two versions of the coupe? I could swear I've seen them with a different rear end to that?

Yep I have a Quantum RSTurbo 2+2 that I bought off Piston Heads couple of years ago.
Its a fine little car, well made and quick on acceleration, however a typical kit car in as much as there are one or two rattles if the roads bumpy.
Huge boot and easy to live with.
