I've got to agree with the Insignia!

I was moving house last year the day after it decided to snow and my mate's van got stranded and couldn't be used so I had to find an alternative. Popped into the first rental place I could find and asked what the biggest car they had available was and they gave me an insignia estate.

Luckily the really bulky things had already bee moved before the snow but in just 2 trips I managed to move A LOT of stuff and it was great fun sliding it about on the ice and much more comfortable than sitting in a van.

I think best would be the Mustang Convertible we had in Florida back in May. Nice darkish blue colour with saddle brown leather. Had a lot of fun in that car, it's great maximising your time outside.

An honourable mention goes to the Toyota Corolla 4dr saloon we had from Melbourne in November to drive the Great Ocean Road. A section was closed, so being a man I thought 'I don't need to use the official de-tour', the next hour was spent on worsening dirt roads. We didn't see any other 'cars', just a few dirt bikes and proper 4x4 vehicles. It was great fun, but nice to be back on tarmac after a while. Luckily the return process didn't involve the office looking over the car, it was plastered in muck!

Camaro last year, quite like it but was only a V6 and to me, American horses dont seem to work as hard as Euro ones, alledgedly 300 ish bhp but didnt feel it, but could be down to weight 1800 kilos and having an auto box that didnt seem to be aquainted with the engine.

It's amazing how many miles you rack up on a holiday. Like I said that Toyota had 3,750 miles piled on it in three weeks.

About the same here Alex, had a convertible one though,

Miami Florida to Vegas, going through the deep south, up through Arkansas and Oklahoma through Colorado and back down through Utah, the Grand canyon and Arizona, was nice being able to fill a tank with super for about £45.

Car was ok, don't think I'd ever buy one though, great in straight line but couldn't corner for toffee - too soft and massive brake fade - Nice enough ride. Once I'd popped out the fuse to keep all four exhausts permanently open, the sound was amazing too, perfect match for the scenery.

This post is also handy as a shameless excuse for me to post a few holiday snaps up too...

Tried to get into an old racetrack for photos but had to settle for some donuts in the parking lot - couldn't get in


This thing has pretty much smokeless tyres




Would get a proper 4x4 next time though, too much of Utah and the desert we couldn't get the 'vette down to see.

In January last year I got upgraded from a Compact to a brand new F150 4 door with long bed. Awesome for drifting out of junctions and terrorirising the natives.

A group convey with mates from San Diego to Vegas. A sterling effort from Avis rent a car, well chuffed considering we could have got anything!
