Gear Knob Removal - do you really twist it?

I can't do it!! It's a 2000 car and just doesn't want to budge. It has some very slight play when twisting it but that's all. Don't suppose the earlier cars have a slightly different set up?

If not, I guess I need to eat a bit more Shredded Wheat!

If it's the same as my Griff there's a locking collar underneath that you need to loosen to allow the kob to unscrew.

Ah, that could be it. There is a little collar below which I'm also having trouble moving. Will find a way to get a better grip of it.

I put some cardboard around the collar and then used molegrips to loosen it.

Thanks. I read through the heat sink group buy which had that image on it and the instructions were to unscrew the knob. Nothing about doing anything to the collar before hand.

Knowing which way to twist it is very helpful, thanks

On my '00 Tuscan there isn't a separate locking nut, just the collar screwed up against the knob.
