VW Bora - yeah I know it's boring, but...

A 2005/2006 TDi 130 with average [or less] miles can be had for a bunch less than a Mk4 Golf. Although the Mk4 Golf isn't exactly rated as a drivers car, the TDi's are highly recommended - so what's the Bora like???

But, it costs more than a Seat Toledo which is also the same as a mk4 Golf, but has an Audi A3 dashboard

The only VW I've ever driven was my friend's R32, and that was ok. Not as quick as the 147GTA I had at the time though.

So I imagine a Bora will be like that R32, but without the 250bhp V6 or sports suspension and nice wheels, or the noise.

Much better buy than a mk4 Golf, higher spec and lower price. You can get a 150 TDI too can't you?

I had a 2002 Bora 130 diesel, and having never had a diesel before i hated the diesel but actually quite liked the car, However shortly after getting it whilst looking ofr a cheap car for the misses, we got a Seat Toledo, and it had much higher spec for 1/2 the price.

So i wouldn't recomend one for that reason alone, but it was a nice car for rolling up and down the M/Way

I have two friends with Bora's. They rate them highly. Decent build quality, fast enough and good on fuel. To combat the boringness of the car one friend resprayed his matt black and put on blue Audi wheels Actually looks quite good.

Family had a 150 tdi for a few years, which various individuals failed to kill.

Fast (surprisingly so) in a straight line. Not so good on twisty bits.

My Dad's got one with the 1.9 PD engine (130). Noise insulation is not up to the A4 I had with the same engine so it sounds a bit agricultural at low speeds, but overall build quality and styling is very good I think.

Yeah there is a 150 but I think that'll be a harder car to find...plus I keep hearing of issues with the 150hp TDi engine, as appose to the 130! I was thinking get a 130 with decent miles and full history etc and then remapped it to 170ish!

...or, spend a few more grand and get the Alfa 147 I really want

I've had a few (Company cars) the 130 is quick enough with plenty of torque, the 150 gives only slightly more noticeable performance over the 130 IMO.

They always seemed to drive better than the golf as well for some reason.

I used to have one - a PD115bhp with leather, DSP and some nice extras. Was a lovely car for the motorway munch, did 50mpg average and the boot is LARGE. A decent family motor. I also prefer the front end to that of the MkIV Golf.

I respect their strengths (ridiculous economy with decent performance and practicality), but that photo proves that even a dramatic desert sunset can't make it look interesting.

I have a 52 Plate PD130 and for a tool, it is brilliant!

I have encountered a few issues along the way of ownership:

- EGR Valves tend to give up the ghost. Solution - EGR Delete Kit
- Boost pipe connecters are wk and faile. Solution - replace them all with silicone (extreme I know)
- Rocker covers leak oil. Solution - buy a new one from VW for a stocking £120 + VAT!

But have also had a lot of good from the car:

- Average 50 - 55MPG
- Comfortable and in some models you can get loads of kit! I would go for the Higline model as it comes with Leather, heated seats, CD Changer, Cruise Control to lot!
- Boot is massive!!

I really would recommend these cars!

Arent the Golf and Bora front ends interchangable? Some people do it and call them Bolfs?

My friend had one for a while, it was very nice. Leather heated seats ect, basically he got a lot of kit for the monies. He took it to London and back with absolutely no problems.
