Never understood this. I know some justify it by saying "it makes it look neater", but to me it just looks like a bog basic spec car that someone hopes will be mistaken for something a bit pokier.

Think someone put a 316i badge on an M3 smile

You can take them off with a hairdryer. Just keep warming the glue until it melts and the badge comes away. You can specify it when you order your car though, but everyone will know that no badge means it's a smaller engined car.

It's a no cost option, so why wouldn't you? They do generally look pretty st as badges.

Also having the size of the engine advertised on the back of the car is pretty naff, whatever the size.

Like my badgeless E34 540i which I was happy to let people think was a 520i wink

Or my badgless X-type 3.0 which if you can't count tail pipes must be a 2.0d smile

someone is driving around brighton with a 335d or i that has been debadged. Very subtle, although I always assume it's the d.

It's all right when you can take them by surprise on the road. I saw a BMW today which looked like an M3 with the Clubsport pack. It had no badges so I wondered if it was actually a 320 with the bodykit. Sure enough it was.

Yes, although it takes at least 3 minutes to do it oneself.

It seems to be that in the UK people largely debadge base spec German cars, whereas in mainland Europe it's the highest performance models which do without.

For once, the Europeans are right.

And in almost all cases today, the number bears no relationship to the engine size at all anyway.
I ordered my 135i with badge delete.

Debadged my A3 because I was sick of boy racers wanting to keep up with a 3.2 in they're puntos and corsas.

Agree with this, never understood why someone with a 320d for example would debadge it as you can tell by its lovely one exhaust anyway.

The only time i get it is if its a 335i or 335d then its good for stealth!

Buy car with badge.

Spend 10 mins with hairdryer removing badge.

Sell badge on ebay to person with base-spec model.

Enjoy fish n' chip supper.

Win.

Except to BMW anoraks, the lower front grille and headlamp inserts are a dead giveaway. paperbag
