i've posted my car for sale in the ads section a couple of times and i find that after a week or so it's moved to the next page due to new ads being submitted and the longer the car is still for sale the further down the list it goes reducing the effectiveness of the ad. the only way to get it to the top of the list again is to resubmit it.
i was thinking of ways this could be improved and the only way that i can think of is to have a "renew" button which sets the dateposted date to the current date - presumably the ads are ordered by date posted descending. so, after 2 weeks or so you could click the renew button and your ad would be bumped to the top again. obviously there would need to be some checking in place to make sure peeps can't click renew every day. i think this would save the end user time (by not having to resubmit the ad) and save ph disk space / approval time.
ted is this something you would consider doing?

How about just recycling it back to the top once a week - no renewing needed, no cheating possible...
the reason i suggest having a manual "renew" button is so users have to do it which means their car must still be for sale. if it was automatic then you'd get a lot of cars that have been sold being recycled to the top which nobody wants.
to prevent abuse would be quite easy. to allow a "renewal" you would just do a datediff on the dateposted & current date. if it's more than a week then the renewal would be done otherwise it wouldn't.

Edit your advert, just one tiny edit, and it will pop back up to the top.
Its actually annoying as a buyer when people do this though.
Examples:
- if subscribed to the classifieds you get the ad emailed to you evertime someone up dates it which is just bloody annoying.
- When I was looking for a Griff I knew what cars were for sale and so wanted to only see the new ones at the top, not refreshed adverts (which dealers tend to do a lot). It also means you cant see how long a car has been on the market for.
Not meaning to whinge, just stating my opinion.
Good luck in selling the car though. I recently managed to do an excellent deal on some wheels thanks to PH classifieds and I also bought my Griff there.
