Z3m Roadster or SLK32 AMG

Hi all - Have just sold my Z3 with a plan to buy a Z3m roadster but have noticed that the amg SLK has similar performance at around 350bhp . Dont know much about them but guess they do not handle as well as the M. The do seem very similar in specs to the Z3M and slightly cheaper though

Can anyone advise me if they are worth looking into further ? oh and if there is an owners club/site point me in that direction

Depends on what you're after I suppose. I couldn't live with either chassis in a fun car - they're both pretty rubbish. The BMW is slightly better, though.

Funnily enough I was reading a very old EVO that compared these two and also the Chimera 4.5 and Boxster S (986). The BMW was the quickest of the lot but finished third overall. I think it was marked down for the interior and slightly unsophisticated handling. The Merc was last although I can't remember why. I presume the Merc is auto which would put me off.

I looked at all of these when i bought my last car.

The sluggish auto in the SLK put me off - it just kinda makes the car pointless.

The z3M was cool, but was too close to the normal Z3 inside and handling wise for me.

i would consider a Boxster S - its a lovely thing.

I think the Z3M Roadster is the better car, but I wonder if it'll be too much of the same as before if you've just had a Z3 anyhow.

Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 - This is the rare supercharged version based on the Mercedes SLK32. Awesome performance and it handles well too!

The SRT6 is in fantastic all-round condition, the bodywork is straight and unmarked, the interior has also unmarked and shows no real signs of wear. It also has the optional factory fitted sat-nav and the stereo sounds great!

It's the SRT-6 variant, so has the supercharged motor and a more aggressive setup. There's some good video reviews on YouTube (Motor Trend TV I think).

SLK32 for me ;-)

I bought one as I needed an auto (bad knee) and have been very happy with it, actually do prefer it to my old Boxster S. If you do look at them make sure you look out for rust in front wings and at the boot handle.

I test drove a 987 Boxster S (now have one) and an SLK AMG.

The AMG had the 7 speed fancy auto flappy paddle gearbox, which whilst being an auto is stupidly quick to change when it detects you want to play around, there's a name for that super quick 7 speed auto box, can't remember it now.

The AMG made me smile like a loon, the sound, the power it has, it's just fun. Lots of fun.

It *isn't* particularily good handling if you want to cane it down the B roads as fast as possible, it's more a "sideways round every corner grinning like an idiot" type of car.

It's the only think I would consider changing my Boxster S for.
