They went right over mine and the dog's heads this morning, very low and very close to each other. Lovely planes, and surprisingly quiet.

Still quite concerned about the future use of the base. Please not Chinnocks - they make such a horrendous din.

I guess they'll either sell the land for development, or put the Army in there.

Somehow the Pongos inherit all the best bases.

There was a rumour a few years ago that Beardy Branson was buying up property in the area.

Speculation was that he was going to buy it and open a cargo terminal.

Option 1 - new prison

OPtion 2 -- asylum seeker detention centre

Option 3 - 10,000 home Eco-Town

Option 4 - Mega Warehouse ditribution centre

The moral of the story is - hang on to your local airfield at all costs.

a) it's summer now

b) these types of schemes have already been slated for various former airfield sites

never saw a spitfire only a light aircraft and a police helicopter

I didn't see or hear the Spitfire but I did see the 4-ship over Calne - lovely bit of formation flying.

It would make sense for all inland military bases to be built up around A/T sized airfields, Army or otherwise, so I would be happy to see the Army inherit this airfield. Least of all because it'll also stop the plans for an entertainment park, and the hell that would bring to the roads in the area.

I don't think Lyneham village will be that quiet as I hear accommodation is a problem at Brize so a lot of people have been commuting for some time, and I presume more will now.
