Just had a phonecall which instantly turned me bright red!
Last night after quite a spirited commute home, my car started pouring smoke out of the bonnet and arches, it absolutely stank. When I opened the bonnet I was greeted by a thick black pool of smoking 'oil' on the heatshield on the top of the engine. Assuming the worst, and with it being too dark and me being too tired to investigate further, I booked it into a local garage first thing. The owner is a family friend and started taking the piss about how I don't look after it etc etc. All the while he kept saying I bet its something simple, don't worry, I continued to disagree.....
He called laughing a minute ago that one of the 5 airhorns I've got wedged in there had melted against the downpipe and that was what the pool was, not oil, and that if I wanted he'd rip them out for me (Not a chance!!)
Normally it won't go anywhere near a garage unless I'm pretty sure on what's wrong. but lesson learnt, DIY airhorn bodges are not without quirks!
Has anyone else had blunders like this??

Almost the same but not quite.
I had a 1979 Aston Martin AMV8, as it used to take a bit to start I had a Jumper box to help the battery along.
We were off to a wedding and I attached the jump box to start the car and off we go.
5 miles later GF says there is smoke from the boot....
I had forgotten to unattach the jump box, the wires had got hot and set fire to a pastic bag with some socks in.
Stopped and put out said small fire, then she wouldn't start again and I had fried the jump box.
Cue Policeman passing and me asking for a jump, he had leads and so obliged, opened the boot 'Smells like fire in here sir'......

I bought a brand new (petrol) car, took it to the garage and proceeded to fill it up with diesel. I drove it for about a mile until I got to work, complained to my workmates how badly fitting those s
tty Asda petrol pump nozzles were, followed by an almighty "oh s
t". The car would't start after that and had to be towed back to the dealership for rear seat and tank removal, new fuel filter and system flush.
A £200 bill ensured I did not make the same mistake again

Today when I went to the bank a chap in a Honda Prelude pulled up next to me at the lights and started revving etc trying to get me to race him. I thought meh, why not and revved back. Que me laughing all the way home because he stalled it and his precious car (complete with bodykit moulded to the bodywork with a biblical amount of filler and primer paint) had just been 'had' by a P reg diesel Golf complete with rust patch on the rear arch. What made it even better was I was never going to race him anyway. I just pulled off normally and wafted on down the road. (my car doesn't accelerate, it gathers speed)
I'd say that was far mor embarrasing for him that what happened to you OP. Bazza and Devvo probably won't be hearing about that race down the boozer.

Was given a lovely magnetic cordless LED work lamp
Was working on the trialer
Got the trialer on the trailer after secureing the engine with new engine mounts using my lovely magnetic LED work lamp
Did the first trial of the day and discovered my not so lovely magnetic work lamp clinging to the exhaust by both magatism and melted plastic
