Daimler 4.0 XJ40 - Any idea on value?

Hi all,

So the time has come for my old man to sell his 1994 4.0 XJ40 Daimler. Its in amazing condition with around 45k on the clock and a full jag and specialist service history, the only faults it has are a cracked front fog and a very small patch of rust at the base of the rear screen (about the size of a 50p piece). Apart from that it really is in amazing condition.

The thing is how much is it worth? As a stand XJ sold to someone who knows nothing about these cars then I suggest probably very little, but sold to the right market, to a loving owner what do you think?

I live close to Beauliea so was going to take it along to their Jag day in August and try and sell it there as I reckon if its going to sell anywhere that will be the place.

I have a figure in mind but am interested to see if it similar to your thoughts - although in all honesty I think it may be a case of its worth what someone is willing to pay i.e. find the right buyer and it could be worth quite a bit.

Could you open the bonnet and take a photo of the bulkhead on the passenger side? Jags/Daimlers that have the batteries in the boot (as yours does) tend to rot very quickly there.

If all's well, I'd wager to the right buyer it'd be worth around £2-3k...difficult to say for certain.

These cars are rare to start with, but very rare to find in this condition. They are starting to become sought after as an everyday usable classic.

If it's a 1994 model then the battery will be in the boot. The 1993-on cars are much better built than previous ones. Many of the parts are shared with the X300 which replaced the XJ40 from 1995 onwards.

I would put it up at £3k and be sure to mention the full service history, low mileage, flawless paint/woodwork/leather and (almost) complete lack of corrosion. At a Jag day you might put it up at £4k and be open to offers.

Stunning car! I would get the fog light and the rust sorted before selling, just to ensure the best price possible. I would also be looking at circa 3k for one in that condition.

Rare bench option -afaik most are standard individual rear seats

Your right about its value in some respect but its so difficult at the moment.You need to find someone who wants that model to get the most for the car. You could try advertising it for more than somepeople have suggested you can always come down in price if someone shows interest.
Lovely car what a shame you cant keep it.
