Rear Engined MX5 Anyone?

Spotted this earlier today.

Never understood this strange habit of driving convertibles with the roof down and the windows up, it really detracts from the experience.

It's a bit less windy in an MX-5, but not too much. I guess it's a case of having to wind down the passenger window or looking silly, which is ok for electric windows, but not so easy with manuel ones. I do it sometimes on the dual carriageway as there are a lot of stones lying around (combination of bad road conditions from winter, and the stones used as sand during the same period of time) and so it acts as a little protection.

I always drive my '5 like that. Stops excessive wind buffeting, especially at motorway speeds!

Not to detract from the OP though... who says the boot on an MX5 is too small?

Thinking about it, that's probably one of the easiest, quickest and most practical way of transporting an engine... No van roof to get in the way of the engine hoist, perfect boot size so engine wont tip over... Ideal!

I always thought it was a cop out, never drove my MX5 like that! The feeling of freedom given by a convertible roof is fantastic, the worry when it starts raining isn't!

Hmm, starting to feel i'm missing out on an element of the MX5 experience! I shall have to make a point of driving sans windows for a week, see how it compares!

Sadly, probably not even a typo. It's the new 'cool' thing apparently. I've seen the phrase 'Spanish gearbox' creeping up on here too, which is taking it a stage further...

It wasn't a typo, but it's probably the result of living out of the UK (letters pronounced differently over here) and being a bit dyslexic. I'm not bad compared to some people, and normally I pick up on mistakes when I read back over what I've written, but I must have missed it this time. I do make mistakes relatively often, but try and correct them before posting as I prefer correct spelling/ grammar too.

I bet the Dubbers will start doing this, I mean a roof rack with a selection of Bric a Brac is so 2009, a crappy rusty old engine in the boot, perhaps with a few stickers on it, wicked, though the air cooled dubbers have had a crappy old engine in the boot since the 1940's

I do usually go windows up on the 70mph roads as its bloody windy without.

Rear Engined MX5 is cool though
