the raf tranche 1 typhoons send them back to bae to be naval version and make them pure air to air aircraft.

blackburn buccaneer previous naval bomber good one at that. re manufacture new air frames (alot of the work done already?) fit: new engine needed? better modern radar and more modern avionics. Would this be a cheaper quicker way than a hole new aircraft?

Bin them all and buy F-18s at half the price. The Typhoon is a great plane, but for what we're using it for (blowing up people who don't own fighter planes) having two cheap and sturdy planes is much better than one expensive and fragile one.

Navalising a land based aircraft is extremely difficult and expensive. Look what happened when the Hawk was navalised for theUS Navy.

I would go with off the shelf Rafales rather than F-18s.

You can attack bandits in small vehicles quite well with Spitfires too - witness Rommel.

Apparently its being developed, to what extent who knows. Personally I think it a bad idea. May as well borrow French A/C to go on a French aircraft carrier.

Why bother with all that expense? We seem to spend most of our time these days attacking natives in mud huts. Get something cheap a cheerful, turboprop driven etc. that way we can afford more then 5 and actually fuel them

You seen the price of unleaded?

I think we should cycle to Libya and tap them over the head with a piece of sustainably harvested Carbon Trust Approved wood - but not so hard as to infringe their human rights of course. If they turn round and riddle you with AK47 fire, well, we tried. Moral high ground and all that.

That's a content-free Eurofighter propaganda rag. It slags off the Super Hornet as slow and overweight, but a navalised tiffy would be heavier and slower than the landbased version. It also glosses over the fact that parts commonality would be little better than 50% and the cost of developing it will be very large if only the RN and the indians are buying.
