Mass Air Flow sensor. Part exchange option only?
Discussion
I'm looking for a MAF sensor for my VW 1.9TDI. I'm not entirely sure it is the MAF that has failed tho so don't really want to part ex mine.
The dealers want £90+vat part ex or £274 without part ex!. GSF car spares want £60+vat with part ex, or £25 surcharge til a replacement is returned, but the chap couldn't guarantee it was an original item or not.
Suggestions where I can get a quality item at a decent price, preferably without part ex if poss please.
Thanks in advance :esm

A quick google firmly disagrees with gsf being good quality.
That said, i've never had an issue personally with any items I've bought from em.
I always complain when I have a problem, I rarely praise when I don't. GSF are a large company, and they are going to do some stuff wrong, and get some dodgy parts from time to time, but I bet if you google VW, they are going to have a fair few complaints about service and quality too. Swings and roundabouts really. That said, i've never had an issue personally with any items I've bought from em.

I got my Bosch MAF from here:

Quick service and saved being charged another £250 on top from a main dealer, same part different box.

Euro car parts sell the factory re-man genuine Bosch ones for around £70 exchange of course
Find out the make of your unit.VW dont make it and I`ll bet its a Bosch unit.Euro will supply the same part a lot less than VW.I needed one for my Merc and Euro supplied the same Bosch unit with the same Bosch part number in a Bosch box at half the price of the same part in a Mercedes Box,and no part exchange. This happens all the time with most parts with almost every manufacturer.

thisThanks for the replies.
Euro car parts sound favourite, but they don't list the MAF for my Passat. Strange as its a part that regularly fails. I'll give them a ring in the morning.
Out of interest does anyone know if the pressure sensor could possibly cause my boost problems? I currently have zero boost.

Well I replaced the MAF probe (Eberspacher)on my B5 tdi which made no difference.
I have EXACTLY the same issues as this chap- http://www.ilexa.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1393....
A mechanic then did a scan which showed up that the fuel cut off valve (N109) was faulty, but the mechanic said it would be unusual for the car to run at all. I've since Googled it and came up with the above link.
Anyone else ever have this problem? The relay is around £30 so I may pay a visit to the breakers unless someone has a link to a cheaper one?
Cheers.

I've narrowed it down (I think!)to the 219 relay. Ordered one from VW and collect tomorrow. If this still doesn't resolve the lack of power then its off to a mechanic.
The 219 is a contact relay and supposedly shouldn't go wrong as often as the circuit board type, but it does. I removed it yesterday and pulled it apart. All three contacts seemed clean. When I put it back in position the glow plug dash light magicaly reappeared, so it does have some kind of fault.
Fingers crossed.
