3000S rubber bumpers - painting

Anyone any experince painting the original black rubber bumpers and if so, what paint did you use?

I recently bought a s/h bumper (Tks Repcon) which is considerably heavier than my original and although rubber, appears to have been coated with a paint which has dried to give a hard plastic (gloss) coating. I'd like to do the same with the other bumper.

Maybe it's some kind of tyre paint.

I wipe mine over with WD40 and they come up really glossy, but you do have to redo them every three or four weeks
