Anyone got a Griff with air con.................

Ive managed to get the bits together to install my a/c system but i'd like to check a couple of pipe runs.

Although he's now sold it S6Animal recently did a conversion on a chim, might be worth an ask as I seem to remember he asked similar questions and solved the issues. He also did a thread might be worth trying to find it looking through his posts.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread a bit....

Would you happen to have a list of bits that you need to retro fit air con, and would you know if the wiring to the heater control panel is in place for it?

I'm also looking to fit air con and have collected a few bits and pieces.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Marty,the component list includes the following:compressor,condenser,reciever drier,trinary switch,expansion valve,evaporator,thermoswitch,heat exchanger(fuel cooler) and all the linking pipework.you should be able to modify your existing heater box to fit the evaporator but if you can find an a/c heater box then its obviously easier.The wiring should already be in place in your car and your heater control panel just needs one wire soldering in to link out the a/c on switch.The compressor relay base is usually also already fitted and can be found in the footwell.I have a couple of spare a/c parts if you need them? I have a spare compressor and a fuel cooler.

I'd also like to look at one to see where and how the pipework enters the n/side inner wing from the condenser,and just where abouts it exits the inner wing when it comes out from the heater box.Your car is slightly different to mine as i see your receiver drier is mounted on the n/side inner wing whereas mine is mounted in front of the rad on the o/side under the grille(same as serp cars).

Hi,

Thanks for the list and for the offer of the parts. I am very interested to learn about the wiring in the heater panel. Would you happen to have any photos/wiring diagrams (for dummies i.e. me)?

My motor is a serpentine version so different to the one shown in the thread. I have already managed to get hold of a compressor - P38 Range Rover V8 models are the same. Good old ebay.

Ive also got a few other bits and pieces including a Cerbera air con heater box which also came with a fuel cooler; trinary switch; receiver/dryer and some of the pipework from Peninsular TVR which also popped up on ebay.

Im not sure of the routing of the pipework to and from the air rad at the front of the car other than one of them disapears into the offside inner wing from somewhere near the compressor. Also not sure of where some of the bits mentioned above (Trinart; receiver) are mounted either.

Hi Marty,i'll try and get some pics of both the back of the a/c linked heater control panel and also what i have fitted at the front of the car as regards pipework.The car i have now was built in '93 but used for development by TVR and only the condenser,reciever drier and a bit of pipe are fitted to my car,but i know for sure that what is there is the same layout as what was fitted to my year 2000 griff i previously owned,which differs from Stephens pics.
Stephen,was your a/c original factory fitment or was is fitted aftermarket?

Try posting in the Chips cage, might have more luck they never take the roof off.

It need to be a Griff as the bodywork is different and the bit i really need to see is the pipework entering the bodywork at the front

Cheers Martin,is it a serp engine? what i'm most interested in is where the pipework enters and leaves the inner wings,really.it should enter somewhere near the front passenger side,and it leaves the same inner wing up near the heater matrix pipes.Also the pipework enters the drivers side inner wing near the front at the top of the wing,but i'm not sure where it comes back out from here??

yes its a serp engine,took some pics if they help,can always do some more if needed ...





First two pics show the pipe leaving the engine bay and into the inner wing on the o/s presume to the condensor rad at the front of the car ?
3rd pic shows the pipe i presume to the heater box inside the car and the last two pics just general ones of the A/C system fitted to a serp....

Right a bit later than i anticipated due to other stuff on a sunday,but here goes some more pics

First one is the pipework re entering the engine bay on the drivers side having run down the inner wing area,i supppose the top rubber pipe pictured is the carbon canister vent,second one a bit further back to see the position in relation to the radiator.



next in the grille area where it enters to the evaporation canister ?


out of the canister and then runs along the front of the rads


down to behind the n/s/f spotlight


and then into the passenger side inner wing area
