Road side cars for sale?

Im just wondering if anyone here has ever bought/sold a car in such a way?

You know pieces of paper stuck in the window usually parked near a busy junction on an embankment.

Seems to be alot in my area!

Are these people just plain lazy or is it a good way to get exposure?

Round my way ,it seems to be illegal to offer a car for sale on the road and there

are signs in some boroughs to prevent it and some cars get clamped /towed also.

Also most of the cars offered by "professional" roadside sellers are snotters

I'm sure it's worthwhile or small-time traders wouldn't do it.

I believe it's technically illegal however, and one always suspects the VAT man doesn't know these people are trading.

I would never buy a car in such a way. A lot of them aren't private sellers, they're dodgy cars linked to dodgy sellers. No comeback when things go wrong!

I bought a Fiesta that was at the side of the road for sale so I could teach my eldest to drive. Obviously made sure it was genuine by taking cash to sellers house to do the deal and didn't just bought it at the side of road.

Saw an "E30 M3" the other day. Out of interest, did a search.

BMW 325i when checking it on an insurance website. Can't say I was surprised.

Judge the car on its own merits, but don't expect a lot of comeback.

I know of a trader that operates like this, pretty much will buy any car that has at least six months MOT, and can be sold for under £1k, he taxes them for six months, and parks them up with a price in it.

I hear through another trade friend, that he thinks it is great business.

From a buyers point of view, even these type of traders can end up owning the odd nice example, so as with all cars at this price level buy it with your senses. The seller, and paperwork is less meaningful at this end of the market.

Never buy a cheap example of what should be a more expensive car this way.
