Holiday ideas- Hot in October...
Discussion
Folks,
I'd said to myself that I wouldn't have a major foreign holiday this year- But finances are looking slightly better than expected and, well, I need a break.
I currently have 3-4 weeks off between October and November. Needs to be somewhere hot- And fairly inexpensive. I managed to do HK and Vietnam last year for 3 weeks, staying in decent accommodation and eating/drinking loads, including flights and everything, for £1500 so this is a good benchmark.
I've been to Thailand twice in recent years, also Singapore. Wouldn't be adverse to seeing more of Malaysia, but would rather go somewhere different.
Creative suggestions around Asia welcomed!
On a different note, I know it wouldn't be cheap, but flights to Japan are very cheap at the moment, just priced up a return to Tokyo direct with BA for £700... Haven't seen them below £1k for ages...
What about China?

Japan won't be hot, but it will be wonderfully mild and clear. Having been to Japan a great number of times, I can definitely say that October is the best time to visit. It is just beautiful at that time of year.
In Southern Japan (Okinawa, Izu-Shoto) however, it is typhoon season. It's not a big deal, but you'll want to be indoors for the couple of hours of comedy rainfall each day.
Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo are places that I can't visit often enough.
If you want hot, the lower latitudes of SE Asia are your best bet. Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Java, etc will all be nice and warm, and you should beat Singapore's rainy season. All are beautiful places which will leave you with fond memories.

All good shouts...
Having spoken to GlenMH earlier in the week Japan is not an option cost-wise I think, although given the very cheap flights I will look into it.
I travelled around S/E Africa nearly 15 years ago now, including Tz and Zanzibar. Probably looking to go elsewhere now.
Bill, India's a very good shout, not sure if it might be a bit full on and rather unrelaxing though
Really want to do the railways at some point though, a 3-week rail pass isn't expensive...

There are plenty of places you can escape the hassle, it should be after the monsoon then and about the time of the Pushkar Camel fair.carreauchompeur said:

Just stay away from Tokyo: Kyuushuu is 30+% cheaper for everything that doesn't have a gov't controlled price... Scenery is better down there too.Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
