Out in the Griff today, battery is reading around 14 amps – as it normally does. Done about 60 miles at this point so the engine is hot. The ignition light comes on a bit – not completely, just a dull glow – I look at the battery gauge and it’s still reading 14amps. I pulled over switched off. Started the engine again and the same thing except the battery is now reading 15amps. So I carry on, warily, and the voltage rises past 15amps. I dropped the revs with the clutch and the voltage falls back to 13amps – off the clutch and back up to 16amps it goes.

Suddenly, the ignition light goes out and the over the next 2 miles the voltage drops to 11amps and stays there. I pull over, have a fag and scratch me head, turn the key and off I go. 12 miles later, and back at home, the voltage is reading just below 11amps – 3 amps below what it normally does..

Whadda reckon – alternator ? Anyone seen the pattern before ?

Got the T-shirt. Alternator regulator pack. Recon alternator £75ish. The recon place confirmed the pack was at fault on their test bench. Worth getting sorted ASAP as it can cause all sorts of misfire.

Worth chceking/replacing the alternator 100 AMP fuse as well just in case.
