Please RAF can you 9 Tranch 1 Typhoons in 2015!
Discussion
No chance, IIRC a Hawk is about 10k-20k to operate per hour, the Typhoon is about 70k!! Considering most of the early ones are being retired around that time to be replaced by later tranche aircraft. Don't know whether the Reds will be replaced or not, isn't the T1 fleet being wound down and replaced with a small number of T2s?

My guess would be not, when the Hawks are retired.aeropilot said:
The RAF have almost taken delivery now of all it's new Hawk T2 aircraft, but with a fleet of only 28 airframes in total for the much reduced needs of the new 'miniture', modern RAF, none of these will go to the Reds. Obviously, as the large fleet of T1's are gradually withdrawn from use, the Reds will be able to cherry pick the best airframes to keep them going for a while yet, as long as MoD funding for them continues. However, they can't keep the old T1's going indefinately, so, the question about the future of the Reds is very much a when they are terminated, rather than an if, especially given the drastically reduced nature of the RAF in the future.
Unless they decide to change the colour of the main training fleet to red. That might save a bit of cash.Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
