Photoshop and extensions

Got a problem with Photoshop... I have an action which creates thumbnails and saves them as .gif. I would like to save them as .FIG though. I have tried saving them in capitals when making the action, as well as setting the batch command to save with EXTENSION. But whatever I do it continues using the lower case. Any ideas?

Check Preferences > File handling. There is a 'use Lower Case' check box under 'Append File Extension', may need unchecking?
