The allusion to a Korean barge on another thread reminded me that this week I've been driving around in this. I'm generally very impressed.
It's a Hyundai Genesis sedan and you can buy one in the US for about $31k (about £23k equivalent with VAT added). It's rear wheel drive, though very softly set up, with a 3.8 litre, 290 hp engine. It's also given me a true 34 mpg (British) from a tank. Inside it's a bit Argos meets S-Class but really quite acceptable.
This is last year's model and the 3.8 now makes 333 hp. The transmission is great; really responsive and it makes the car feel immensely torquey. It's been replaced too this year, with an eight-speed box instead of six.
The handling is very predictable, flat and reasonably grippy, and though the steering isn't communicative, the ride is excellent.
Real men don't need parking sensors, which is good as even though it's about 6" longer than a Mondeo, it doesn't have them. I'm not sure I'd buy one (though I wouldn't rule it out) but it's a brilliant barge/cruiser even if it has zero image.

Decent spec, reasonable build quality, V8 engine - the Yanks are lapping it up. There's also a good looking coupe model, and the new Sonata looks nice as well.
It actually reminds me of the Lexus game plan of 20 years ago. Offer an equivalent or superior product for substantially less. While it is certainly not cheap it significant undercuts it's competitors. They also have another higher end sedan coming here that will compete with the S-class/Lexus/& series. They also have an interesting scheme in which they guarantee the future trade-in value of the car should it be traded in on another hyundai. it'll be interesting to watch

What I want to know is why the bleedin hell Hyundai uk, don`t offer these, especially the coupe. The earlier coupe was a huge sales success so really think they have made a huge booboo not bringing this in.
This one is a big jump up in price, quality, power and specifications so it's not really even comparable to the previous version but it is curious a to why they didn't export it to the UK.
