I fell over last week and seem to have hit my big toe at the knuckle closest to the nail (hopefully that makes sense).

Since my terrible injury occured I have been unable to bend the toe without it hurting like buggery and said toe has now swollen with a dark bruise on the side nearest my other toes only.

I guess it could be broken/cracked?

Question is do I go to the Doctor or just go straight to A+E to get it checked out? I don't want to waste the Doc's and my time by going there first only to be sent to A+E but I'm not sure what is best to do.

Thanks.

Worst case scenario: it's broken.
A giant size (>6cm) paper clip bent to shape up the outside of the foot & toe makes a good splint. Then lash it to the next toe.

I twisted and ankle and my leg turned purple, I ignored it for a few days...

...was blood poisoning!

Worth getting it looked at, maybe nice a nice young nurse?

Either. But don't arrange to fight Wladimir Klitschko for a while.

If you have a minor injuries unit nearby go there.

I banged my toe legging it downstairs one morning because the alarm was going off. After driving/walking for a day in agony, went to my local minor injuries unit to find out it was broken - managed to bend it underneath my foot on the stairs yikes

Treatment was the same though - strap it up and crutches. Worth getting it checked out & x-rayed though.

Went the hospital, Doc looked at it and said it's probably bruised/chipped bone. Nothing they can do and little point in waiting around to have it X-rayed.

So I'm in the same position as I was yesterday!

Cheers

At least you know. Try and keep the weight off it.
