Hi

I wonder if anyone ever tried to remove the interior carpet on their car and replaced it (or not) with another one?

thank you

That looks like your heater control box from under the dash in the passenger footwell. I replaced all the carpets in my tuscan as they were faded, i'll put a few pic on later if you like.

Definitely the heater ECU. Yours looks to be one of the rare type with all the pins shiny!

I have replaced all the original carpet in mine - rear shelf, centre console, footwells, mats and dash. I got the work other than the main dash done by a small company in Baldock (1st Tuscan they had done) and the job was solid, but not spectacular. For the same price, I then had to get Racing Green to get the dash done as the other place were not comfortable addressing the pod/electrics.

Total cost all in was c£1k, which included good quality carpet and was generally a fine job which has stood the test of time well. I accept it was probably not A1 quality (ala Surface and Design etc), but worked very well for me when I did it some 3+ yrs ago. Especially considering how shockingly bad the original carpet and its fitting was after only 18 mths after original manufacture (i.e. carpet falling away in many places, excess glue all over it).

Here's a few pic's of my new carpets. I just bought a roll of car carpet from coverdale and some leather from another supplier (can't remember their name). Then cut all the carpets to size myself and got a local car trimmer to sew on the leather binding, he did all the leather trim for £40. I then fitted all the carpets myself. I didn't find it too technically difficult but it was hard work.

Dash looks great, how did you do that?

I thought about buying the carpet, cutting it myself and then getting a carpet whipping company to just whip the edges. What sort of leather is it? just a normal hide you got the trimmer to cut down and stich on?

I bought a 1.5 by 1 meter square of that leather effect stuff, the same as the transmission tunnel trim. The carpet fitter then cut this into strips and fitted it, had a load left over too.

I did the dash by replacing all the surface mounted LED's for blue ones, they all need separate resistors to give the correct brightness though so there is quiet a bit of work involved. I did a bit of post on it a while ago. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... if you want any other info though give me a shout.

I have some carpet and the binding I got last time I was up at Martrim, just off the knutsford junction. Turned out to be an expensive day as I got involved in a 7 car pileup but what a find. Piles and piles of bentley, aston and TVR carpet, they even carry good adhesive and the all important leather binding. They had a stack of good hides there as well which I was very tempted with. I also picked up some vinyl that is a good match. Well worth a look. The wilton carpet I got is very high quality and will look great.

Anyone know of anyone in the glos area that could sew the bindings on?

I'd like to do mine, do you need any specific tools to do it ? Do you need to do anything special such as take out the seats etc.. ?

I'm on holidays seems like the right time to do it, I just don't want to mess it up...

I recently took my seats out to tidy them up along with the centre console. Its surprising how easy it all comes out and goes back in. Replacing the carpet would require removal of almost everything the carpet is under. Hardest bit looks like the bit under/near the alloy cross bar thing on the dash area. Rest looks pretty easy tbh.

Hey folks,
Can I ask, does anyone have a guide to doing a DIY job of replacing the carpets in a mk1 Tiscan? I was thinking of getting a kit from either tvr power or lake well. Are these kits any good quality wise?

Only other option is getting someone to do it for me but that's too expensive.

Thank you for your help

I don't have a guide to doing the carpets as such but I do have a guide to removing the interior that another PH'er compiled! Should be all you need if you are replacing with pre cut carpets.

I see your in the south east.

Try hoods galore in hockley, they did mine and are very reasonable.
