Crazy traffic lights

So we have a typically large 4 way junction near my house where two dual carraigeways cross each other at right angles. Its controlled by lights. Regardless of which way you approach it it has left turn peel offs which up until recently didn't obay the lights just a typical give way. So all the lights have been renewed and they added left turn filter lights (the green arrow ones)

Image my suprise when sat at them waiting to turn left the left filter light turns green I drive through it then have to brake to avoid hitting the on comming traffic on the road I'm about to join! Madness the idiot council has set the light up so they go green and you still have to give way about 1m past the light as the on comming traffic's lights are on green as well. I'll give it a week before someone has an RTA.

Nowhere near the same scale as this, but it's the same thing at one end of Brentwood high street after it got re-developed. Plenty of signs and markings to remind you to look right as well, but I'm sure some more dozy folk will/have got caught out.
