Paypal Gift Problem
Discussion
Not sure if this is the correct section but here we go...
I was sent a gift payment on Sunday 26/06 but between us we managed to input an incorrect email address (a '_' was missing), due the this gift being sent via a credit card we presummed it just took a couple of days to clear, after 3 days I started to query where the fund were, at this point we un-earthed the email address error.
We have made contact with both paypal and also sent an email to the 'receipient' of the gift. Payapl have washed their hands as it is a gift and there is no response from the other email.
Does anyone know of a course of action that we can take to get the monies back??
Any help would be appreciated.

How do I cancel a payment?
You can only cancel a payment you have sent if the payment is ‘Unclaimed’ and you can see a ‘Cancel’ button in the ‘Action’ column for that payment.
Generally, this will only appear if the payment was sent to an email address that was misspelled or is not registered with PayPal.
To cancel the payment, follow these steps:
Log in to your PayPal account at www.paypal.co.uk
Click ‘History’ at the top of the page
Find the payment you'd like to cancel
Click ‘Cancel’ in the ‘Action’ column of the unclaimed transaction
Click ‘Cancel Payment’

Well, if it's unclaimed, then just cancelling it will be easy.
But if the erronous e-mail account happens to be PayPal registered, they are quite entitled to pocket the money.
If you're e-mail address is [example] dave_smith@hotmail.co.uk and your friend has sent funds to davesmith@hotmail.co.uk, it's technically the same as walking up to the wrong bloke in the bar and giving him a tenner. You can't later go up to him and say, "sorry mate, I meant to give to it someone else, can I have it back?".
Ethically, the third person should probably return the money, but in terms of legality, I'm sure it would be a pretty grey area to try and claim the funds back.
