Williams to use Renault engines next year

Lots of change going on at Williams, and it's good to see that they have announced an engine deal with Renault for next season:

Frank is looking increasingly frail - it would be nice if they could return to championship challengers before he has to call it a day.

Interesting that Patrick Head has pinned this decision firmly to Parr's mast, however; it it proves a disaster then there will be a culpable person already lined-up

It can only be a disaster if Renault decide to pull out and cancel the supply. With five teams to supply, that simply isn't going to happen.

If someone wants it and will pay for it they will make it.

Plus by increasing capacity slightly it could be used for LMP2 cars at Le Mans as they allow 6cyl turbo engines up to 2lt in that class.

Maybe when/if they switch from Mercedes to their own McLaren motor, that might happen when the new engine regulations come in.

Mclaren won't be making their own F1 engine. Whitmarsh went on record didn't he last week (?), stating that F1 engine development costs have to be spread over too many car sales for it to make it viable for Mclaren to do so off of their own production car. So will always need an automotive company as an engine partner.

The green Lotus cars switched from Cosworth to renault engine/box this year and it has made very little difference they still cant get within a second of the Torro Rosso, the engine switch has not made a big jump, and this years chassis is supposed to be a huge improvement over last years, so I cant see this making a huge difference to the Williams performance next year. But I hope it does..

Williams are still faster with the Cosworth engine this year over the Renault powered Lotus, Red Bull and Renault have no problems with their engine so the difference will still be the chassis. Get a Renault engine in the Williams and they will be challenging Renault for Q3 qualifying places more often that Force India will be.

It was more like that when it was supposed to be a 4-pot - as per the rally cars and whatever else was planned.
