Hi there,

Over the weekend I tried a couple of 645i convertibles as I am in the market for one. Both were 2004 models with around 50k miles on them.

Sitting on the passenger seat I noticed the whole of the dashboard moving slightly, almost like a large piece of 'jello', for lack of a better description, as we drove along. This was with the roof down and travelling at over 40mph.

Is this what they call 'scuttle shake'? Is it normal on such a high end car? If not, what could be causing it?

Sorry for the newb question but I've only really driven convertibles which are small sport cars (Boxster and S2000) so don't quite know what to expect!

It is scuttle shake, amplified if it has larger diameter rims on it.

Thanks for the feedback, at least its normal. Kind of weird though, I guess one can't expect much torsional rigidity from a car with a chopped roof, defintely a cruiser type car!

cant comment too much on scuttle shake as i never drove it with the roof down, but used to drive my bosses 04' 645 a fair amount. Make sure you get warranty, it went wrong. ALOT.

Whole iDrive wiring harness had to be replaced as the screen started to cut out when cornering.

I never felt anything like that in many miles of driving a 650i cab with the roof down

Thanks again.

Looking only at AUC cars now, apparently if I buy before the 11th it would come with 2 years warranty which is a great bonus.
