UPDATE, 1600 BST: I have just heard from my old friend Gerhard Kuntschick on this subject. He is a journalist for the Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachtrichten and knows Mateschitz as well as any reporter. Kuntschick spoke to Red Bull F1 adviser Helmut Marko on Monday, who told him: "Red Bull considers Lewis Hamilton as having a firm contract with McLaren and we don't interfere with other people's contracts. But you never know what will happen in the future."

To be honest I just wanted to post it for the Austrian journo's name

I think both CH and AN both know that the top two drivers in F1 are Lewis and Fred. Given an oppertunity to sign either of them then they would jump at the chance

This makes it sound as if Lewis wouldn't want to, yet seeing his growing frustration, I think Hamilton would not blink for a second at an opportunity to challenge Vettel at Redbull if he knew for sure their dominance (and as result Vettels dominance) will continue beyond this year.

Well I think on average mclaren have produced more competitive cars than red bull. If Lewis has a problem then he should leave, red bulls budget won't stay the biggest in f1 forever...

I'm a long way from being a SV fan but I think you do him a disservice. On the face of it he's as accompliched in F1 as LH is. He's going ot be a double WDC by the end of the season so will, on paper, be as accomplished as FA.

We saw LH in his rookie season match FA in the McLaren so we can assume they're very close in skill although I'd argue that Fa has an edge in experience and temperament.

If there are any doubts over SVs ability pairing him up with LH would be the proof.


The Benson article does a good job of summing up the pros and cons of a move and they stack up convincingly - it would be a good move for both LH and RBR. The uncertainty is if, for LH, it would be better to stay at McLaren or not. Can McLaren produce a competetive car by the end of the season or not?

My guess would be that he'll stay if the McLaren is competetive enough to imply a good chance of a title next season. If they're still 0.5 of the RBR I wouldn't put money on him staying.

Is it a coincidence that since Fred left McLaren have been off the pace development wise? I remember at the time there were fears they would miss his input with respect to the car. Jensen is along now but his driving style is completely different to Lewis.

oh i know it well, what im trying to say is, Red bull (and im going to get roasted for this) are a drinks company at the end of the day, much like we have seen in nascar recently, when they get bored or the results dont come, or the viewership drops they will be off.

as for Lewis, i'm a big fan, i'm an even bigger fan of Mclaren. So much so that i say let Lewis go if he wants too, as a Mclaren fan i would prefer Kobi + Jenson.

And let me tell you something for an absolute fact, Lewis in a team with Vettel WOULD NOT WORK. It would be like alonso and lewis only with an added twist of they would probably kill each other on track. You cant have that much ego+ability next to a driver of vettels ability+goldenchild status.

From what I can gather a lot of people at Red Bull feel that this Riccardo (sp?) lad is as fast as Vettal and will be a damn sight cheaper than Hamilton.

I think if Hamilton were to leave Mclaren in the near future it would be disasterous for his career. If he were to get out from under Big Rons control at the moment, I fear it would only be a month or two til we were 'treated' to his first musical efforts.

So RB are going to get it right again next season !!! or are McLaren going to get it right first time next season ???

Or will Ferrari blow them all away ??

That's why I think he'll stick, he'd be a mug not to look at the options though.
