The SEAT Toledo V5 - a huge amount of car for the £?

Anyone have any experience of these? I know the V5 is a little thirsty for its performace (post 2000 20v head update helped this a little iirc) but a cam chain driven reliable engine in a sturdy frame with full leather, sat nav, air con, abs, power everything and less than 90k on the clock for 1200-1400 most with some service history if not FSH, that is a LOT of car for the money surely?

I really like the V5 engine and the the toledo always was a hoot, had a few as hire cars, abuse factor was high!

Anyway, apart from a few known issues, the car's a good one!

I manage about 26mpg in town, bout 35 otherwise.

I'd go for the later 20v 170bhp version - essentially a VR6 minus a cylinder - Thirsty and not anymore powerful or flexible than a 1.8T make a lovely noise though

Don't VW Boras cost more or less the same? Nicer interior quality and exterior looks. Easier to sell on.

my father has a Golf V5 on an '03' he only runs to work and back which is a round trip of 12miles but gets 25mpg.

it would clearly be better on a run. However he has never had anything go wrong in 30,000 miles.

sounds lovely and goes reasonably well.

They are amazing value for money. I got my Toledo V5 170 two years ago for just under £2k with full Seat history, and it has been almost faultless over the last 20,000 miles I've had it (blog of things done to it is in my 'garage').

Long term fuel economy of 33mpg in mixed driving, about 39 on a motorway run. Pretty good all rounder imo. The only problem is I want to change cars (I want to try and get a roadster), but just cannot justify selling this car as I can't think of anything else comparable for the money.

They also sound amazing with a SS exhaust imo;

I had a V reg one of these in metallic black with a cream leather/alcantara trim and cream carpets(!) as a company car about 8 years back. I did about 50,000 miles in it mostly up and down the M6, but occasionally on A and B roads. It was sold with 90,000 on the clock and no major issues with it other than standard service items. I probably wouldn't have picked it myself (it was ordered by a former colleague so I inherited it) but it was a lovely car for the year or so I had it. IIRC I could get about 33mpg out of it on a run too, so not bad for a 2.3. The only issue was the Tax man as the CO2 calculation came in around that time so I got a bit hammered for the last couple of months until it was replaced with a rather more boring Passat 1.8T.

Had one when they first came out - good car. One on AT for £790 with 12 months ticket! Really nice car for that money. Don't remember it being bad on fuel in particular. Screwed together rather well when SEAT was trying to make a name for themselves, in fact better than some of the later models and Leons.

I used to have one of these, and absolutely loved it. Comfortable, smooth, electric everything, nice interior, I couldn't fault it at all. I bought it 2 years old with 60k on the clock for 8k, and sold it a couple of years later for about 6.
