rs6 potential purchase

thinking of swapping my 996 c2s for a rs6, i have read all the claimed figures on mpg, but does anyone one here have real life everyday figures? i realise rs6 and mpg do not go too well together, but id like a better idea. Im thinking of a 2003-4 model with sub 50k miles. They seem to be brilliant cars, had the 996 long enough now and fancy a change! would also like a bigger boot!

Went from a remapped RS6 to a 911 Turbo and have not looked back; my RS6 ownership experience was a costly one.
Mpg? You would be lucky to get above 20 on a combined cycle (and I am being kind!) Mine averaged between 12 and 16. Very thirsty.
If you are adamant on buying one, check the DRC has been ripped out in favour of coilovers and check when the cambelt was done (a costly job). Pads, discs and tyres etc are all very costly, but after all, it is a supercar so expect supercar running costs!
Check out RS246 for advice.

Work on 12 - 15mpg around town, 18-22 on a run.They're lovely to drive and very practical but you absolutely have to keep on top of the maintenance and that isnt cheap.

911 has been cheaper to run so far.Edited to say that I am not the only person to have owned both and said the same thing.

If you look in PH classifieds, you'll see one that a dealer chum of mine in Hampshire is selling with 88k on the clock that has had something mad like £40k spent on it in the last 4 years!

I'd also say that buying on (low) mileage is a false economy. I would buy on condition and would be more inclined to go for an older car with a cloth-of-gold service history. I echo those comments. I made a big loss on mine (as your do, such is depreciataion) and eventually sold it for 13K. In my period of ownership, I managed to get the mileage to over 110,000 but it never wanted for anything. The owner got a great car for the money; apart from one scuffed wheel (which you can see on the pic) it looked and went like new. Great replies thanks, well that has put me right off!! i expected the Audi Rs's to on a par with the 911's for running, shame as its such a great looking and sounding car! The search starts again i guess.

The 911 has cost me a fair bit to be fair, i spent 2500 when i first bought it getting all the niggles on the pre purchase inspection sorted, but boy am i glad i did as it has been flawless since and it gives great peace of mind!!
