The ideal second budget car for someone who likes driving

Probably not relevant to me quite yet, but I'm sure it might be to others.
You have a car that's currently your daily but it's either costing too much to run, racking up too many miles for your liking or just isn't suited to the commute (or all three). You want to drive your current car at weekends and the odd evening, but for the commute and the rest of the time you want something else. It must be:
Sub £2,500
Petrol
Reliable
Minimum 35mpg combined - the more the better
Cheap to run - insurance, tax, parts/servicing - again, less is more
...and most importantly (apart from not being an mx5), actually be reasonably fun to drive, a good steer and handle ok.
Suggestions?

Suzuki Ignis Sport - My current car, fun on the twisties, nice and light, rev happy engine, 0-60 in quoted 8.9 seconds, Insurance group 9 I think, £155 or something for a years tax, likes to run on Super but also allows 40MPG, slightly less when making good progress all the time.
106 Rallye or Ford KA - Small, light, fun, plenty KA's and 106's were on the roads therefore shouldnt be too hard finding Second hand parts from scrappies.

Depending on how long the commute is, a Ka or 106 might get tiresome. How about a Mk1 Focus 1.6?Sub £2,500
