I am thinking about having a go at making some electric wing mirrors from GF to mount on the front edge of the centre section.
I need wing mirrors as the door mounted factory one's are no good on track as mentioned in other threads.
I may well use the motors from my old mirrors but with bigger mirrors mounted in my own design of housing.
This is if I can find the time!!!

These are the mirrors I made, obviously not finished yet.
I used the original glasses and motors.
The mirrors sit as far to the front as possible on the doors to let me see the passenger mirror. Reinforcing of the door inside is necessary.
I have no track experience until now, so why is it necessary to move the mirrors to the front? To see the driver side mirror it needs to be very far forward
I am sure the motors are used widely and in different configurations.
What I know is that the motors are used in BMW E46 models, some versions with position sensors (potis I think) for the memory function.
Will try to get some of these as I find it useful to move the glasses down to see the rear wheels while reversing.
My motors and the switch didn´t match, in one direction they always moved opposite.
I had to modify the motors.

The mirrors need to be as far forward as possible so that you don't need to turn your head to see cars just behind you on either side. You can then keep an eye on them in your peripheral vision.
The standard GTR mirrors offer very limited visibility to your 4 and 8 o'clock as they are a lot closer to you than standard car door mirrors.
I will look into the Can-am mirrors. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks Paul.
The closeness of the standard mirrors was one of the reasons why I moved them to the doors.

I was thinking I'd need to go further forward still, onto the bulkhead between the door and front clip. Finding electric mirrors that would look right is a challenge IMO; a couple of potentials are a) http://visionhotrod.com/mirrors_vf4.php but not available in electric or b) a set of mirrors from a 1993 to 1995 RX7. I just picked up some of the latter on Evilbay to see how they would look. The closeness of the standard mirrors was one of the reasons why I moved them to the doors.
