Got a new plasma, worried/confused!
Discussion
Hello all,
I've just bought a Panasonic TC-P55ST30 and I'm too scared to use it!
Found some postings here from somone called D-Nice who suggested to run a slideshow for 100 hours before using the TV! Should I do that? Is it a load of old tosh?

Also, I've made the fatal mistake of going on AVForums where people talk about floating blacks, whites, judder when playing games, etc, and it's making me wonder whether I've made the right choice! All TV's have their problems I guess...
Feeling a bit confused and unsure as to whether I've bought a rubbish telly now after reading some of the posts on AVF

Got our Panasonic in January, plugged it in, switched it on, watched TV and Movies. No problems. Very rare gaming but the picture is great. Nothing moves, judders or wobbles that isn't meant to.
Enjoy it, you made a great purchase.
I just want to use it, but everyone says that the 100 hour burn in slides are well worth it...Enjoy it, you made a great purchase.
I got a Panasonic plasma back in 2003 and the advice then was run it in on minimum brightness/contrast settings for 100 hours and NEVER play games on it, because the image will burn in to the screen.
I did run it in for the 100 hours but I also played a lot of games on it, and watched plenty of TV channels with logos in the corner. I passed it on to someone else a few years ago - they still have it today and the screen is as good now as it was eight years ago.
The technology will only have got better from those early screens, so I would relax about it.
The AVforums is an invaluable source of information about AV gear, but the members there know their stuff and will find/discuss all of the faults. Just have a look at the feedback on the Samsung LED-liy LCD sets!

The thing is i watch my TV using my eyes, on AVF im sure they only ever watch them with light meters. I work at a Panasonic and Samsung main dealer and 99% of things mentioned on AVF simply dont happen, its just a small minority hell bent on picking fault with absolutly anything. The last screen burn I ever saw on a Panasonic was on a TH37PA20 and that have Fifa 98 (i think it was) burned on the screen where its owner had fallen asleep infront of it. It really isnt an issue like it used to be.
It's not running it in, it's just getting the phosphors past their first 100 hours of aging so that you can apply the settings in the thread and get a picture close to this guy (Who is an ISF calibrator)

Does the manual mention anything about watching a series of slides for 100 hours before using it? Is your watching environment perfectly optimised and you'll always be watching the TV from the "sweet spot" when not training calibration devices upon it to make sure you don't have a 0.0001% magenta shift?
If the answer is no to the above personally I'd stick some normal material on it and just use the thing as it's intended.
This sounds awfully similar to the notion of burning cables in, exercising speakers and tying bundles of small stones to inter-connects.
FWIW when I got mine I just watched stuff on it, told the boy not to play games on it for longer than 1 hour (which he promptly ignored) and then gave up worrying about it.
