Revised MP4-12C GT3 Racer Shown At Goodwood

'Dynamic debut' of new McLaren GT3 endurance car reveals revisions are already underway

The McLaren MP4-12C GT3 racer appeared in revised form at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, as development work continues apace with the new car.

The MP4-12C GT3 - which is the first non-F1 competition car to come from McLaren since the F1 GTR in the mid-90s - has been undergoing 'intense' development and now has various improvements fitted, including a front radiator, which increases the maximum ambient temperature at which the car can run, along with a new gearbox cooler mounted on the rear Aerodeck.

Other new aero bits include a new front splitter, door blade, rear wing, diffuser and louvres in the front bumper, all in carbon fibre.

All looks pretty good to us, chaps (though we must admit we're hardly trained aerodynamic engineers...

McLaren GT, which is the company created for the joint venture between CRS and McLaren to create the 12C GT3 programme, is spending 2011 developing the car, ahead of the delivery of 20 cars to privateer teams (a mere snip at just £310k) for European GT3 racing in 2012.

They HAVE to make a road going version of this. The current road going version's styling is too generic.

they have announced they'll be doing a more hardcore version of the road car, whether it'll look like this, time will tell.

i have to admit, that new front splitter looks MUCH better than the other one they had. looks great smile

I thought I was the only one who is completely underwhelmed by the looks of the regular car!

If they take this and tone it down slightly (rear wing etc) for the road I think it will be an infinitely better looking car. Similar story with the 360 / 360 Challenge Race Car / 360 Challenge Stradale.

don logan - I don't think the road going version is bad looking, I agree it is underwhelming and just generic. Like if you handed a 13 year old a pen and said 'sketch me a supercar'... it would probably resemble and share design cues of the MP4-12C road car. I don't think you could say the same about other cars in it's bracket.

oh dear, you must have been in hiding if you hadn't realised the 12c got this response, it is often from people who conversely rave about the 458 so their argument is a little odd, more just fans of one make. Anyway behind the wrapper of the 12c is the real deal, be underwhelmed by that not the looks..and have you actually seen one, will you drive one?

The quote 'styling to generic' is becoming VERY generic !!!

The GT3 version of the MP4-12C is fantastic looking but I also don't think the standard verstion is bad looking. It's not flash and its much better looking in the metal than in photographs but the real beauty is in the quality of the details and how its engineered and put together. The 458 is a fantastic car but I think its gone a bit bling and is flash rather than elegant.

Oh and you've got to have the MP4-12C in Kiwi racing orange.

I have to agree with previous comments on this thread as well as on the many other threads on PH. THIS is what the road car should have looked like to begin with. Maybe tone down that rear spoiler a tad but the rest is perfect. I'm sorry but no matter how good the engineering was in the 12c, it just looked boring and that is not a critiscm that should ever be levelled at a supercar.

For those saying "what about those who want to drive an understated car" my answer would be what are you doing looking at a £150k plus supercar then? There are plenty of annonymous 911's, German uber saloons and many other restrained options for you to choose from.

Next you will be telling me that BMW don't really have a colour option called Jewish Racing Gold... hehe

As for the MP4-12c GT3 - so much want, so little funds frown

Not as the 928/944/968, they have no liners, the pistons run on the bores of the Alusil block which has a high silicon content.
