the ones with the 2.5 from the 944. Were these any good? I know the smaller engine ones aren't considered much cop bu what about these?

I only have direct experience of the 2.0 and, for what they are, the smaller engined one is a great little car: well balanced and carries speed nicely through corners, low to the ground, practical, comfortable, etc.

So I'd guess the 2.5 is much the same but noticeably quicker. Higher running costs though, due to it being a Porsche engine rather the 2.0 VW lump - the latter having cheaper and perhaps more plentiful parts availability.

never driven one, but having owned several 924s and 944s and having loved all of them i can only see the 924S as a good thing... but the 944 looks much more 'right'

Yes, slightly qwuicker then the 2.5 944, as it has a smaller frontal area and lighter, but with the same engine.

These days, they are not quick cars. But worthy classics in my opinion

They were very smart cars in the 1980's. Always preferred them to the 911. Second only to the Quattro, Golf GTi and 911 as the iconic cars of that decade. (I appreciate it can't be second to all three but it's late.)
