4 bar is too high - that's 56 p.s.i.

However you will get that high when the engine isn't warmed up as it defeats the oil relief valve. I get 50 p.s.i when cruising at 3000 rpm and still under 80C engine temp. It drops to around 30 p.s.i when fully warm.

If it's 4 bar sustained then you will put a lot of strain on the oil pump drive - wearing the drive gears to the dizzy and eventually the timing will retard (or if you're unlucky like Chedder the gears will strip off.)

Dix,

4 bar is 58 psi so spot on for an RV8 over 1500 rpm.

Mine runs at 65 psi on 20w/50 over 1500 rpm, dropping to 40 psi at hot idle.

A bit higher than yours because I have a double oil pressure relief spring.

Sounds like you have a fit engine to me.

Dave.

PS: Remember, the OP gauge in a TVR is not the worlds most accurate instrument

Those numbers are way too high for an RV8 Wedge. You sure you're not using data from one of them new fangled serp engines?

I run 15W 50 and hot idle is around 25psi, over 2.5K rpm is 40psi - from a proper gauge, not the standard unit.

Its the same as Adam said sorry only 3 to 4 bar when engine oil had just been changed when oil warmed up sat at 2000 revs it read 2 bar obviously as the viscosity come down with heat. It seems to have settled down a bit niw. Just me panicking again. Cheers boys

No worries! I try and keep the rpm below 4000 before the engine is fully warm so the pressure/strain on the gears isn't too high.

My old 350i actually had a sticker on the screen (I assume from the factory) waning not to exceed 2.5K rpm until the engine was hot.

Mine has still got the sticker and I stick to it religously, although engine temp gauge never seems to get above 70 degrees....
