I get the impression that the [global cash cow] format of TG is getting a bit long in the tooth to many on here. We got talking at work and we decided to make our own motoring show (we won't though, but if we could...)

There are many aspects of motoring that are left out of 5G and TG. I thought the new show could be a selection of video diary shorts covering motoring topics other than 'this 911 is faster than the previous 911' or 'which large German saloon car is the best?'

So, who's up for a (virtual) slot? 5-10 minutes. Anything goes!
Oh, and we need a name for the show! smile

Ideas please..

You could have a show where knowledgeable people test a variety of cars and give their honest verdicts. I know it's a bit 'out there' but I thought I'd mention it. OK, fair's fair, 5th Gear does a bit of that but I'm still fuming from the last Top Gear, which illustrated once and for all what a totally embarrassing, self-indulgent, pointless pissflam of a show it has become.

Possible topics......

In depth step by step Haynes Manual rebuild. A different chapter each week

Different wood veneer's used by English manufacturers through the decades

Why Birmingham was the best car making city in the world, and why the MG6 is British and how it will be a massive success.

Why spelling and grammer on a forum is soooooooo fking important.

Why Top Gear should be reviewing boring stbox cars instead of producing an entertaining world beating show....as it does now.

I think long term tests could be interesting...especially for more expensive/exotic machinery.

The mags all do it, so why don't the TV shows?

Think of the impossible with a gallon of fuel, how far or how high.
Comedy sells, but will sell more if it can be affordable to the (real) average earner.
If your viewer earns only £6 per hour, don't advertise something that drinks this in 1.2 miles.

I agree with this, up to a point, but why does it have to compare cars in this way at all?
It has the opportunity to be so diverse in the topics it covers but chooses to be predictable and overformulaic.

Lowest

Common

Denominator.

While there are lots of car enthusiasts who would love TG to be a full hour of stuff like the Senna piece, or who still mourn the demise of the rally report, there are millions who don't. And that's who the show is for. There are plenty of "anoraky" car shows on satellite/cable.

Well, thanks for the 'contributions so far'

Zaxxon can start with 'Different wood veneer's used by English manufacturers through the decades' 5 mins
DVS dave gets 'Long term test on an Exotic' 5 mins
Cal 72 gets to experiment with 1 gallon of 95 RON, in a comedy way. 10 mins

Nearly got a whole virtual show together. driving

A good 15 mins of Chris Goffey remarking on how hard it is to find/access the spare wheel. Go on, watch the old episodes. Every car review gas this piece of analysis... (well, most)

I can see him reviewing the Veyron.... "well it's a lovely car, good build quality and surprisingly frugal for it's size, but I can't help but worry about the access to the spare wheel, which is frankly disappointing for a car of this value"

The best I can think of would removing bits of TG I don't like and adding more of the bits I do.

OUT

SIARPC, it is clear that many of these "stars" don't really care about cars and are just there to flog something or the other. There are enough TV chat shows to cater to them (and the people who want to hear them) so leave it out of the motoring show.

News, the trio only use it as a stand (yes I know they are seated) up comedy routine where they know a captive audience will laugh at them out of sympathy/embarrassment/whatever and they don't really tell us anything "new".

On that note, just do away with the studio and studio audience entirely. The only reason they are there is to laugh and applaud the trio and on the odd occasion be ridiculed or leered at. Beyond me why someone would want to be a part of that.

IN

May sound contradictory, but keep the RPC (just no star in it). It is fun watching it being thrashed around the track, but how about getting "regular" people to do it. Highest bidder in a charity auction, competition winner or just random name picked from a hat. Fastest driver at the end of the season goes on a road trip or a challenge next season etc.

Road trips, by far the best aspect of TG. Get to see some pretty exotic stuff doing something other than hooning around a track or posing behind glass.

yes. We could thrash loads of RP cars around a track to see which one breaks/rolls over first.

that's another 10mins.
