Wipers not working properly. Park at different places, sometimes dont work at all. Had a look under the bonnet and the motor is working fine, but the whole motor assemly is moving backwards and forwards along the tube that carries the cable. There appears to be no way to secure this tube to the motor assembly. The brass nut does not seem to do anything. Should the tube have a lip aroung the rim that will locate within the brass nut.
If this is the case where will I get a new tube from and is it a p-i-t-a to fit.
Help please.

Not sure about the 'tube', but when i had the parking problem with my wipers it was cured by a new park switch.

The whole motor assembly is bolted down onto the inner wing:

so I can't see how it's moving freely?

Yes there should be a lip on the tube. Getting to the wiper wheel boxes is a real challenge so it may be best to see if you can source or hire a pipe flaring tool so that you can fix the problem in situ. Don't forget to ensure the nut is on the tube before flaring!!

If you remove the wiper arms from the wheel box spindles, you can pull the wire rack all the way out. (and it's easy enough to get back in)

You might alternatively look at bonding a short turned sleeve onto the tube using a mechanically strong adhesive.

Best of luck on this.

Are you sure the brass nut is screwed on, it's a very fine thread and can be tricky to get started IIRC.

Thanks mike, you have hit the nail on the head. I think I may try and bond something on it. Where would I get that metal glue from?
Thanks

Not sure what's current. You need either an anaerobic adhesive like Loctite or a two part epoxy like Araldite.

The former needs a nice slide fit between parts but it will be strong very quickly.
The latter can tolerate greater clearance between parts but may take many hours to become strong.
I'd do some research on the web.

I've seen this used in various applications and it seems to work well:
