I'm hoping to go to my first track day this Friday (8th July) at Castle Combe. biggrin
I've never been to one before, and Stedman off here has asked if I wanted to go as a passenger. I'll be making my own way down, and he says it'll be £10 for any passengers on the day. Does anyone know about how it works for passenger, where do I go when I get there? How do I sort helmet hire and stuff? Can't find much on the internet as it's a Volvo track day.

Anyone done this before and able to help me out and explain how it all works?

I had my stag 'do' at CC, it was awesome. I took the GTE round the track, and had my dad's name down as a passenger. In the end we signed up at the entrance to the Café next to the Merlin Motorsport shop, and they didn't mention anything about paying extra. You can put your name down as an extra driver if someone will let you driver their car. I let someone else take me around in the GTE and it was suprising fun seeing what the car can do in someone else's hands.

Also on a Friday make sure you stay after lunch. It's amazing how many people leave early. By 3pm you'll have the track to yourself!

Normally, you just rock up at the drivers briefing and when they sign on as a driver, they'll get you to sign your life away as a passenger at the same time.

If you're turning up later in the day, you'll have to find an organiser and get them to sign you on.

Helmet hire is available at the track, they smell a bit sweaty though...

I did my 1st track day there in April. Yep you can hire helmets, iirc £5 an hour. My mate did a deal for £20 and had it all day.

Passengers had to sign a different form to the drivers, but I can't remember if they had to pay?

Enjoy, you'll love it!! smile

I assume there will be an extra cost involved with doing that? (Assuming of course I even found someone to let me drive their car). hehe

Think everyone else has covered the main points, there's a deposit for helmet hire payable by credit card. Don't think theres actually a charge for hire. Basic days goes thus:

08:00 arrive, go to The Tavern
08:05 tuck into fry-up, don't even think about the small one, get the man size
08:30 drink more tea
09:00 listen to briefing, watch out for David daCosta amusing gags
09:30 hit the track

You'll be split into groups and there's usually a 45-60 minute wait between 15 minute sessions. You can use this time to purchase further goodies from The Tavern, such as pasties, chilli con carne and chocolate.
