Would a TTRS engine fit into a MK2 golf?
Discussion
Just wondered if this is a possible conversion, it's 335bhp as standard which could offer more reliable performance than a massively tuned 20VT engine.
Not having worked on a MK2 not sure if it would fit practically or would be a sensible option however people fit VR6 engines in and the TT engine is only a 2.5.

The VR6 is a more tried and tested solution, and can be quite cheaply supercharged for that kind of level of power. I would expect an I5 to be longer than the VR6, but it might well fit anyway. The problem would be getting all the electronic stuff hooked up and possibly finding a gearbox (unless you want the end result to be 4WD).
Agh ok, it's just I've managed to aquire the engine, gearbox and wiring from a guy I know who's son wrote off his TTRS driving tpft, he's swapped it me for my mums old car which I had no need for, my first thought was just to sell for a quick profit but wondered what I could do with it conversion wise if I decide to keep it.

and 400bhp with minor mods. Not having worked on a MK2 not sure if it would fit practically or would be a sensible option however people fit VR6 engines in and the TT engine is only a 2.5.
Make it so.
Would want a syncro drivetrain to make best use of it as these are old, light cars and I suspect 200 bhp is about sensible, perhaps a bit more so you dont have 400 bhp and waste 200 of it and smoke and broken driveshafts, an LSD and super sticky tyres would help but with 2wd I suspect it may be an exercise in frsutration getting the power down, with 4wd, even then it would be "lively" but immensely quick.
Would recommend a full cage and some bars to the struts and other reinforcement, if you have ever jacked an aging mk2 up and opened the door you will understand why
avoid the 4 door as its even worse in the torsional rigidity stakes, add in a bit of rust and it has all the integrity of a wet hanky !
Awesome project though !

How did he manage to insure a TT RS TPFT?? Surely must require fully comp? Be a good project if it fits
It could....take the measurements and other things but hmmmm....
and if it could fit i would love to see a 500 bhp (or even more, extreme tunning to the 5-pot turbo) in a mk2 golf, but than 4wd system in the golf is needed, would cost a s
t load of money but if it becomes real the golf would be a fvcking best, would love it.

k that i'm doing it and look at the results. I recall years ago people saying Vr6 engines were a bad conversion then people started building them properly and realised they are pretty dam good. Soon after R32 engines were available and people said they couldn't go into Mk2s and then start spouting the usual b
ks about it being too big an engine too heavy an underpowered yet as soon as people started building them loads have popped up an now people are removing R32 engines to put R36 engines in! Yet people around here seem to think VWs are just about looking like they have broken suspension

The white DutchBuild car is a 2.5 5 Cylinder non turbo from the US market Mk5 Golf/Jetta. Using that one because of something to with FSI and this engine taking very well to turbocharging.
Another one here into a Rallye, seems to be going well.

Im sure most people have seen this one, Audi S2 5 Cyl.

Also plenty of other ways to get big power in a Mk2, like this 1000hp+ R36 Turbo
