Bought a new car. esure wanted to charge me £26 to change number before I sell my old car, £26 to amend my policy (+ the extra premium as it's a newer car) when I take delivery of my new car and then £26 to put a plate on my new car.

I asked them if they were having a laugh but apparently they weren't.

In all fairness they waived the first £26 (when I kicked off) but have refused to waive any more. Obviously I've told them that they won't be getting any more of my hard earned when renewal time comes around.

I don't know ho they justify £26 to just change a number plate's details. they tried to tell me that were incurring extra postage expense.

I've never had this before and I've been swapping number plates for years, even though esure tried to tell me it's standard practice.

They 'd want £27 to cancel the policy anyway so they've got you over a barrel. Ok, so it's 'only' £26 but all those £26s add up and, besides, there's a principle involved.

(I expect some anti-private number plate replies etc etc to this post)

It must be a new thing, I've never had this before but was charged to remove the plate from one car and then was going to be charged by my other company but then got through to someone else that didn't mention!!

What's the principle? The staff don't work for free you know.

You bought the cheapest insurance and now you expect them to do things for free?
Why shouldn't they charge for spending time updating your policy?

Because they've had to pay the person who you spoke to on the phone. They've had to pay for someone to amend their database. Theyve had to pay someone to produce the new documents, they've had to pay someone to put the documents in an envelope and take them to the post room, they've had to pay for royal mail to deliver it. And so on.

Bell, tried this on with me, told them I wasn't paying £26 for them to spend 30 seconds typing in a new reg no, they said it's for the new certificate. Said that's fine i don't need one of those. So it was waved. They have tried it 3 times with me, and I've never paid it

Esure did it to me and no they werent the cheapest for me, just what I thought was a better cover. They wanted a premium to cancel the policy, as I wanted to do that rather than pay £26. They said 'all insurance companies charge for ammendments' I told them that was tosh as had changed the plate on my other car twice with my other insurance company for free. I told them not to bother to send me a reminder when renewal comes up. They arent fussed at all to be honest. It does not 'cost' £26 to tap a keyboard and post a bit of paper. If it does, I am in the wrong buisness..............

Been with esure since 2008, changed car twice in that time and they've never charged me £26 for policy amendments, even when i've needed to change the policy over for a day or two when my car has been in the garage and i have a courtesy car.

Phoned up tonight to change over as i need a courtesy car tomorrow and they want £26. I argued, lady went to her manager, came back and said the only thing they could do is proceed with the changeover and charge me and someone from their complaints department would call me and POSSIBLY refund in the next couple of days. I said ok, and then their computers went down!

So i need to faff about tomorrow morning at the garage and if they don't refund the £26 then i wont be with esure come renewal time!
