Driving holiday ideas needed

Me and a few mates have 2 weeks coming off very soon and are thinking of doing a driving holiday in europe.

We all live in Bristol ,

Has anyone done this and where did you go?

We were thinking of driving to Monaco ?

Ever been to the Nurburgring ?

Then after that drive down to Stuttgart for the Porsche and Mercedes museums.

Then down the unrestricted autobahn to Munich for the BMW museum.

Drive down through Austria and do some of the epic mountain passes in France/Italy/Switzerland

Is that enough for starters ?

Also sounds very expensive on fuel lol , but it does sound awesome . thank you

Not to mention road tolls in most of those countries .

When i go i blank out how much it all costs and enjoy it all

Last year we drove from Surrey, through France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria to Slovenia. Then to Italy (Riviera) Milan via an exclusive track day at Monza (I'll never forget my 175mph+ laps in a Porsche Carrera GT.) Onto France and back home. I thoroughly recommend it!

I've done a few driving holidays as well as a few road trip style long drives.

Did Scotland a few times in my late teens was good fun and didn't cost too much. Going into mainland Europe the costs do escalate a bit but obviously thats part of the holiday. Things to factor are ferry/channel tunnel, tolls and safety gear required.

Monaco is a fantastic place to go to although I prefer it quieter off season. Drove through the night from Geneva to Monaco in the winter - 3 am along some alpine passes in a fully laden hire car driving on ice was an experience - but its a great place to be.

Petrol will be a large factor too. I recently did London-Zurich-Paris-London in 3 days, whilst fuel economy wasn't a particular concern, petrol alone was almost £400 and we were only driving my Volvo.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

A Bath-based friend of mine got the ferry to Bilbao/Santander and drove through the Pyrennes, along the Cote d'Azur to Monaco, up into the Alps and Switzerland and then back through Champagne country to the Eurotunnel, but you could divert towards the Nurburgring on that last leg.

I've done a trip to the Alps (natural playgound for the Caterham) and a trip to the Belgian GP in the Mustang. Basically decide what you want to do and see and plan it like that. My biggest road-trip day has been 745 miles so far, in the Caterham, from Chamonix to Bath (via the tunnel), so it's pretty easy to get from Bristol/Bath to the Alps in a day in a normal car.

Monaco's a good idea - however if you want to stay local and save on fuel etc, head across the bridge and into Wales, some excellent driving roads around the valleys!

Alternatively you could always go to the highland roads in Scotland (a friend of mine, also Bristol based, is doing the run in his Morris Minor!), or the Isle of Man, although the latter is perhaps more for bragging rights as it's probably not the speed mecca TG makes it out to be.

That's only halfway..

From there, down to Sirmione on Lake Garda, day trip to Venice, then onto Genoa, then around the French Riviera, up through the Lot and Dordogne, hotel in Loire and overnight in Honfleur before a ferry home.

We did it in 11 days.
